Brethren all,
I hope that this extreme weather is not causing too many of you problems. It does mean though that the grass
is not growing so fast and the lawns do not need so much cutting. Pat is finding that it is easier to see to the
garden during the evening when it is slightly cooler. There is always much to do and the weeds seem to
become stronger in this weather. Fortunately, we have had a good crop of soft fruits and Pat has slaved over
a hot stove making jam. Some of the crops have suffered from the lack of rain but we are now digging
potatoes and have enjoyed some lovely fresh lettuces.
Can I thank all of you who supported the Province by attending the Mark Grand Lodge meeting on the 9th
June. To me personally, it was a very memorable day, one never imagines getting such an honour, along
with other brethren within Hampshire and Isle of Wight, who received promotions or Appointment. I know
that the P.G.M. and the Executive members appreciate the tremendous support that is given to these
occasions. It was marvellous to see so many dining together.
In a few days’ time many of us will be gathering together to celebrate the culmination of the M.B.F. Festival
for our own Province. A lot of work and thought has been put into making this a memorable time and I am
sure that all that effort will be richly rewarded. Having spoken to the P.G.M. recently, he is hoping that this
good weather is not going to break later this week and come up with some heavy rainfall. Sir, I can assure
you that we are all crossing our fingers that we might be blessed with good weather and have a momentous
event. I am still on the look out for a “loud” shirt to wear on the Friday evening. On behalf of all brethren of
the Province, I extend a big THANK YOU, to all those who have been, in any way, party to organising this
event.
On another subject completely, what a wonderful Wimbledon this has been. There has been an abundance of
well fought matches in both the men and women tournament. Obviously, Arthur Ferry comes to mind, as a
wild card entry, he reached the semi-finals, and has adhered himself to the British public. A number of other
wild card entries also did well. On continuing the sporting front, Pat and I went to see England play India on
Saturday at Hedge End and were treated to a fabulous number of runs being scored over 40 overs. The
atmosphere was tremendous, but, we had a group of about six males behind us who insisted on singing,
there were no way near being in tune or musical, although they seemed to enjoy themselves.
Looking forward to catching up and seeing many of you soon. This letter is to show that I have not forgotten
you and that I am still thinking of you all.
