W. Bro. Brian Durrant has reported the death of Mrs. Linda Gilbert, wife of W. Bro. Wally Gilbert, P.P.G. Reg., Gosport Mark lodge, No. 305. on Thursday, 6th, October, 2022. Linda has recently been in hospital but returned home earlier in the week and died with Wally and family at her side. Our thoughts and prayers are with W. Bro. Wally and his family.
It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that VW Bro Peter James passed away peacefully at 4.30 this afternoon in QA hospital surrounded by his family.
It is with very great sadness I post the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of W. Bro Patrick Burridge, P.G. St. B. P. Prov. Dep. Secretary, who passed awa peacefully, surrounded by his family during the morning of 5th, October, 2022. I must admit that I have already shed a tear or two. Having known Patrick for a number of years now, he was a great person who was always cheerful and dedicated to whatever he was tasked to do. He made a wonderful impression on us as Provincial Warden along with Richard Cox. He has suffered ill health for a while but bore it steadfastly. May he Rest in Peace.
I have received a report of the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of, W. Bro. Dr. Robert (Bob) De Goldthorpe Hanson, P. Prov. G.J.D., on 4th October, 2022. He was a member of Portsmouth Lodge of Mark Masters, No. 17 TI. He was a great supporter of the Lodge and will be greatly missed.
It is with sadness and a great shock that I record the sudden passing to the Grand Lodge above of W. Bro. N. (Nick) H. Plowright, a Past Master of St. Andrews Lodge of Mark Masters, No. 63, on Thursday, 29th, September, 2022. W. Bro. Nick was in Florida, U.S.A., at the time. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. Plowright, Bro. Harry Plowright and the family at this distressing time.
On behalf of W. Bro Chris Brier I report the death of W. Bro. John Nixon, P. Prov. G. St. B. (Herts), on 21st September, 2022. He was a member of Clanfield Mark Lodge, No. 1385. Unfortunately John had been in poor health for some time and had not been able to attend the Lodge but had kept in regular communication. He will be greatly missed.
It is with regret that I post the passing of W. Bro. Colin Beeston, P. Prov. G.S.D., to the Grand Lodge Above on 11th September, 2022. He was a member of Hants. and Isle of Wight Prov. Grand Steward’s Lodge. Colin has been ill for some time, Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family at this sad time.
It is with sadness and regret that I report the death of W. Bro. David Bottell, Provincial Grand Inner Guard, who passed to the Grand Lodge above on 16th, September, 2022. David suffered from covid last December and his health was affected from that time. Over the last couple of months his health deteriorated and he spent some time in hospital. W. Bro. David was a great supporter of masonry and travelled as one of the four Musketeers from the Isle of Wight on many occasions. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Tasha and their daughter.
It is with great sadness and regret that I acknowledge the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, on Thursday, 8th September, 2022. She was a gracious Lady who carried out her Oath and promise to dedicate her life to her duty as our Quenn and head of the Commonwealth. Our thoughts and prayers are with King Charles III and the whole of the Royal family. Our thanks are expressed for all of her dedication and leadership. May she rest in peace.
Belatedly I note the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of Bro. David Hayes, on the 31st. August, 2022, he was a former member of Meredies Mark and Ram Lodges but resigned in 2021 due to ill health. I met David as a member of a Rose Croix Chapter in Chandlers Ford. He was always very friendly and had a good sense of humour but has suffered ill health for a couple of years. I understand from his brother, Philip, that David wished to spend his last days at home and he was still joshing with the family to the end, when he passed peacefully away. He was a gentleman and he will be greatly missed.
It is with regret and sadness that I report the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of Bro Derek Radford, on 13th August, 2022. Derek was, until the last three years, an active and committed member of many Orders in Freemasonry. He lived respected and died regretted. He was a good friend
It is with regret that I post the passing of W. Bro. James Shaw McIntosh, Thomas Dunkerley Mark Lodge, No. 1296, on 11th August 2022. Little Jimmy had been suffering from dementia for some time and had been admitted to care. He will be sadly missed, I first met Jimmy in the Red Cross of Constantine, finding him always cheerful and full of good humour.
It is with sadness that I note the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of W. Bro. Frank Radcliffe, P.Prov. GSD, former member of Thistle and Shamrock Mark Lodge No. 1048, on 10th August, 2022. Frank was 97 years of age and had suffered ill health for some time.
It is with some regret that I note the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of W. Bro. Arthur Norman Sidney Robinson, P.Prov. G. S. W.
a member of Portsmouth Lodge of Mark Master Masons, No. 17 TI and also RAM Lodge No. 17, on 5th July, 2022. He was a long serving member of both Lodges aged 96 years. May he Rest in Peace.
It is with regret that I post the recognition of W. Bro. Anthony (Tony) Digweed, a former member of Mercury Mark and RAM Lodges and a Founder of Meridies Mark Lodge, who passed to the Grand Lodge above on Sunday, 31st July, 2022. Tony was a stalwart in masonry having served as Provincial Grand Secretary in the Craft at one time. He was dedicated in whatever office he held. Tony lived respected and died regretted. His family are in our thoughts and prayers.
It is with sadness and belatedly that I note the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of Bro. Barry Lee, a member of Oakley mark Lodge, No. 886. Barry was always cheerful and willing to assist where he could for the god of the Lodge. Unfortunately he has suffered health problems over the last couple of years. He will be missed by many, may he Rest in Peace.
Brethren, it is with some sadness that I note the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of W. Bro. Alan Greasley, a Past Master of Thistle and Shamrock Mark Lodge, No. 1048. He was a man who spoke his mind whilst being very generous towards charity. Alan was a member of many Orders, being active in all until the last few years when his health was failing. One time I remember being in W. Bro. Alan’s company is when he was Senior Warden of Thistle and Shamrock and I had the privilege of being the Provincial Senior Warden.
As was tradition with that Lodge, the Provincial Officers were hosted by their opposite numbers. Alan sat in the Senior Warden’s Chair, in Lake Road, and I was alongside of him. It seemed miles away from everyone else but we had a good time. Alan lived respected and died regretted, he will be missed by all.
On behalf of W. Bro. Chris Brier I publish the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of, W. Bro. Stuart Farley, on 28th April, 2022. Stuart joined Clanfield Lodge of MMM on 28th September, 2008, in spite of debilitating illness he worked his way through the offices becoming W.M. 23rd March, 2015. He was also a member of Thomas A’ Becket RAM Lodge, serving as W.C. 2013/14 and was awarded Prov.RAMGR in 2018.
His hard work and determination to succeed endeared him to all and he was made an Honorary Member of both Clanfield Mark Lodge and Thomas A’ Becket RAM Lodge.
I have just heard the very sad news of the passing of R.W. Bro Steve Davison which of course has come as an unbelievable shock. The Province was so delighted to receive him on Saturday and commented what a lovely man he was and very approachable. He will be sadly missed in this Province but we will always retain the memory of his sincerity, good humour and approachability. He certainly lived respected and died regretted,
I have been informed of the death of W. Bro William (Bill Gent, formerly of Loveland RAM Lodge. I first knew Bill some years ago as a Member of Royal Gloucester Craft Lodge No. 130, He was a great character and very likeable, in my opinion. Bill will be missed.
