It is with great sadness that I report the passing of W. Bro. W. (Bill) A. Morris, PGStB, Christchurch Lodge of Mark Masons, No. 1453, on 6th April, 2022. W. Bro. Bill was a very willing member but has suffered ill health for a number of years. May he Rest in Peace.
It is with sadness that I note the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of W. Bro. David H. G. Rogers, P.Prov. GJW, of New Forest Mark Lodge, No.611. He was a good servant to the Lodge and will be greatly missed.
On behalf of W. Bro. Ian Small I publish this statement;
” It is with a heavy heart that I must let you know that W. Bro. Alan Small has passed peacefully to the Grand Lodge Above. He was a member of Romsey Mark Lodge, No. 910 and Solent RAM, No. 63. He also was a member of both Meridies Mark and RAM for a while.
He took a great deal of enjoyment from Freemasonry and highly valued the relationships that he formed with so many in this Province.
Thank you all for the high regard and affection that you showed him. He lived long and well and will leave us regretted.”
It is with a heavy heart that W. Bro. Ian Small reports the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of his much loved father, W. Bro. Alan Small on Thursday evening. Alan has been battling with cancer and dementia during the last couple of years but passed away peacefully. W. Bro. Alan took a great deal of enjoyment from Freemasonry and highly valued the close relationship he formed with all.. Ian expresses his thanks for all of the regard and affection that all showed to his father.
I personally knew Alan through Meridies Mark Lodge, he was always cheerful and contributed much to the Lodge. He livded respected and died very much regretted.
On behalf of W, Bro. Nick Bier I write the following, our thoughts and prayers go out to Nick and his family;
“”It is with sadness that the passing of Naomi Bier, the beloved wife of W. Bro. Nick Brier of Clanfield Lodge MMM, No. 1385, mother of Megan and Teagan and guardian to Nick’s son, Tommy, is announced. Naomi fought a long and courageous battle against a number of ailments and passed peacefully away on Friday, 25th March. It is my sad duty to advise of the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of W Bro Derek (Skip) Attree PPJGW, Past Provincial Grand Organist on the evening of Friday 25th March at home with his family surrounding him. Skip was not only the PProvGOrg for the Mark Province, but also organist for a good number of lodges/Orders in the NE area of the Province in particular. A truly respected man by many and a dedicated Mason he will be sorely missed.
Rest in Peace Skip from all at the Bordon centre specifically.
It is with sadness that I note the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of W. Bro. Derek (Skip) Attree, PProv GJW, PProv Org., of Woolmer Forest Mark Lodge, No. 1403. W. Bro. Derek has suffered ill health for some time but this still comes as a shock. He was a good servant to the Mark Degree.
A good fiend to many, Bro, Leon Whitfield, New Forest Mark Lodge, No. 611, was called to higher service on 19th March, 2022, after a short illness. I first knew Leon through K.T. where he was a great help to myself and many others, guiding and encouraging them through the Order. He was also an APGM in the Craft. I will always remember his warm, smiling face. May he rest in Peace. He certainly lived respected and died regretted.

Belatedly I report the death of Bro. Greg Welch, who passed to the Grand Lodge Above on 1st March, 2022. He was Advanced in Christchurch Mark Lodge in November, 2019, and he was keen to progress. I shall miss David Ivor (Park – no “S”), a fine mason and a true friend for over forty years.
It is with a heavy heart that I report the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of W. Bro. David Ivor Park, former secretary of John Pounds Mark Lodge, Installed Mark Masers Lodge and Scribe of RAM Lodge of Instruction. David had been suffering ill health for a couple of years and stood back from Masonry. He was a hard working and dedicated Mason being a member of a number of Orders. Our thoughts go out to his family at this time.
He lived very much respected and died regretted.
It is with much sadness that I report the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of W. Bro. Derek Burnett, P.P.G.S.W., Prov. RAMGR on the 12th February, 2022. I last spoke to Derek at the RAM Annual Assembly at Botley, when he received his Provincial Appointment to Prov. RAMGR.
I first met Derek in 1963 , when we served as Police Officers in Eastleigh. My wife was also a Police Officer there and when I told her of Derek’s passing she stated that he was a good police officer and a gentleman. He will be very much missed. May he rest in peace.
W.Bro. Brian Davies PProvGJW 08/05/1936 06/02/2022
Brian was born in Wales to a Baptist family, the son of a Baptist minister. They moved to
Hampshire, where Brian joined the Peter Symonds boy’s Grammar School.
After national service he joined the police force and spent many years on the Isle of Wight.
Latterly, he was the driver for the Chief constable, retired and rejoined as his chauffeur again for
many years, the stories of his adventures not be repeated…
He bought a beach hut at Leigh-on-Solent, christened it ‘The Shack’ and the Lodge had many
happy visits there in a few summers with Pam & Brian the jovial hosts.
He joined the Old School Lodge in 1962, and was the Master in 1975.
He was in the Craft and Mark degree for 60 years this December.
He was a great motoring enthusiast, owning an MGB and caravan, taking his family with three
daughters all over Europe.
He loved sailing in his yacht ‘Kea’ and latterly joined many of us on raiding trips to the Isle of Wight
– again – many stories not to be repeated here.
A keen rugby player in his pomp, he was always an enthusiast and on occasion, installed a tv set in
the festive board to watch the game, one memorable occasion is when he with his cohorts came
back to Clare and I after a meeting to watch a final.
I first met Brian on joining the Old Symondian Lodge 24 years ago – he was one of the few
remaining Old Boys of Peter Symonds School in the Lodge. I was made most welcome and learned
the fine details of the Almoner duties from him, as he was the Almoner for many years.
He lived his life to the full – an eloquent and popular MC at many festivals and meetings with his
fine strong Welsh voice and good humour.
He was kind hearted and ran the local ‘Acorn Club’ with Pam for his ‘biddies’ with enthusiasm.
He was a cornerstone of our Lodge and will be very sadly missed.
A good friend and mentor to us all.
Rest in Peace now, Brian, your work is done well.
Davud Cambell Almoner 5734
It is with a very heavy heart that I report the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of W. Bro. Chris Boorman, he was my predecessor as Provincial Grand Almoner, a great friend and loyal mason. He will be greatly missed. Others will I am sure pay their tributes.
I am sad to announce the death of W.Bro. Michael W Childs. He passed away on Thursday the 21st of October at the age of 87 years. Michael was very actively involved with Craft and Chapter (Landport Lodge & Chapter) and held Grand Rank in both. He was appointed Provincial DC in June 1999, 2nd ProvGPrin in June 2001 and DepGSupt in June 2002. He was a late comer to the Mark Degree and joined Meridies Mark until illness overtook him. As you know Michael was the Brother to Malcolm Childs. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones.
It is with great sadness that I record the passing to the Grand Lodge above of W. Bro. Brian James Weedon, a member of Winchester Mark Lodge No 969, Brian was born on the 5th August, 1931 and died on 6th September, 2021. Having just celebrated his 90th birthday with his family. He will be remembered for designing and presenting Winchester Mark lodge with their own banner during their 75th Anniversary celebrations. He was a very good friend and a fine example of a good mason and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. May he rest in Peace.
It is with sadness that I report the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of Bro. Ronald Port, Clanfield Lodge MMM, No. 1385 on 14th August, 2021. He is the father of Bro. Trevor Port and our thoughts go out to him and his family and Mrs. Nora Port, Ron’s wife. Ron became a member of the Mark Lodge in September, 2018, and had been a regular attender until the lockdown came. He will be greatly missed.
It is with great sadness that I have to inform you all of the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of Bro Peter Howting.
Bro Peter had not long become a member of Gosport Lodge of Mark Master Masons No305, Bro Peter sadly passed away after a long illness, and passed away on 5th July 2021.
Peter was a very keen footballer in his younger years, and he will deeply missed by all who knew him. He really was one of the best.
GOD BLESS YOU PETER.
Bro Peter’s funeral will take place at Ann’s Hill Cemetery Ann’s Hill Road Gosport at 1pm on 29th July 2021
