On behalf of Bro. Archie Dickie it is with sadness that I report the death of his beloved wife, Mavis, on 27th June, 2021. Mavis had suffered a short battle with cancer and conducted herself well. Archie tells me that Mavis has asked him, with her agreement, to continue with his masonic activities. She will be missed very much, may Mavis rest in peace.

Sorry abou t the delay on reporting the passing of Bro. Peter James Howting, Gosport Mark Lodge, No. 305 on the 5th July. 2021, to the Grand Lodge Above. Due to ill health Peter had been unable to attend Lodge for some time but had been a very loyal member. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Belatedly I have to report the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of Bro. David R.G. Collins, on 17th May, 2021. He was initiated into the Royal Sussex Lodge in Bristol just over 50 years ago. He was a member of Bournemouth Lodge of Mark Master Masons, No. 125 and a former Commander of Bournemouth Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners, No. 125. His funeral will take place on Friday, 25th June, 2021.

Brethren, it is with some sadness that I have to record the death of W. Bro. Ken Simpson, a former member of Wyndham RAM Lodge, No. 37, on 2nd June, 2021. He was W. Commander of the Lodge in 1999 and 2000 but resigned in 2005. I knew him to be a very good ritualist, who was sincere but very sensitive. He was a former member of Border Mark Lodge, No. 1143, in Ludgershall, Wiltshre. May he rest in peace.

It is with great sadness that I record the passing to the Grand Lodge above of, Bro. Ronald ( Ron) Terry, a member of Winchester Mark Lodge for some 42 years and for many years the Tyler of that Lodge. Ron was born on the 20/06/1928 and died on 21st May, 2021. He will be remembered also as the Winchester Masonic Centre Bar Manager for 20 years. He was always friendly and welcoming in my opinion. He will be missed. At the time of is death he was resident at Bereweeke Court Nursing home.
    May he rest in Peace.

It is with sadness and deep regret that I report the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of W. Bro. Stanley Alfred Brooker, PProvgSuptWks, a former member of Wyndham Mark Lodge, No. 37. He died peacefully in his sleep on 22nd April 2021. Stan had resigned from the lodge in 2020 due to ill health. He was a very experienced mason having celebrated over 60 years in the Craft and 60 years in Royal Arch Chapter. It was his will to become fully involved with what ever he took on in Masonry which was amazing, he did not like to just sit and watch until the last few years, which is understandable. I, like many of you, knew Stan in many different Orders, He will be missed very much. May he rest in peace.

It is with sadness that I report the passing to the Grand Lodge above of Bro. Oliver Webb, P.Prov. A.G.St.B. of Albany Mark Lodge, TI, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on the night of 9th/10th April, 2021. He was born on 10th March, 1929. Olly became a Joining Member of Albany Mark lodge in 1984, although he did no progress through the offices he served as secretary for a number of years, being a good servant and well respected. The P.G.M. comments that Bo. Webb was a very loyal Mason and Mark Mason, he will be greatly missed.

It is with great sadness that we learn of the death of His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh. Our Hearts go out to Her Majesty the Queen and the Family; he was a loyal subject and great Ambassador for this Country. He was a Freemason for over 60 years.

Brethren it is with some regret that I record the death of Bro. John Thomas Watson, Albany Mark Lodge TI, who passed to the Grand Lodge above on 24th March, 2021, after suffering ill health for some time, which was not Covid related. He was granted honorary membership of the Lodge in recognition of his devoted service to the Lodge. Rt. W. Bro. George Deacon, the Provincial Grand Master has stated that John was a lovely man and an asset to the Order. He was glad that he gave Bro. John a “Field Promotion” to, PProv. AGSt.B. It is recognised that John was a good servant to the Lodge and he was well respected. He will be greatly missed.

It is with great sadness that I report the passing to the Grand Lodge above of W. Bro. Graham Cooper, PAGDC, on he 16th March, 2021. He was a member of Forty Steps Mark Lodge, 1773, (25 years), Norman Mark, 1279, (27 years), Provincial Stewards Mark Lodge, 1796, (18 years), and Chandlers Ford Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners. He was also a Past provincial Grand Warden. I also knew Graham through St. Michael and St. Mary, Preceptory of K. T., in Andover. Graham to me always seemed to be up beat and practical about most things in life. I only spoke to his wife, Sheila, last week about Graham’s condition as he was at that time in hospital, it was thought he might be improving, but that was not to be.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Sheila Cooper and her family.

It is with sadness that I report the passing to the Grand Lodge above of, W. Bro. David Joseph Furnell, on 25th February, 2021, at the age of 91 years.
David was Initiated into Freemasonry on the 24th September, 1959, in City of Westminster Lodge, No. 1563, he was Raised in the same Lodge on 23rd February, 1961. He was a member of Brownsea Island Lodge , No. 9689.
In the Mark he was a member of Dorset Mark Lodge and Dorset Installed Mark Master Masons Lodge. He was Exalted into Christchurch RAM Lodge on 27th July, 1982, becoming Commander of that Lodge in 1988. David was also a member of both Dorset and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Installed Commanders Lodges, both of which he has been Commander.
In Craft he held the Grand Rank of PAGDC, and in Royal Arch Chapter he held the Grand Rank of PAGDC also
David was a good supporter of all the masonry that he was involved in. He will be greatly missed.

It is with sadness that the passing to the Grand Lodge Above is reported, on behalf of W. Bro. Brian Cox, secretary, and members of Connaught Mark Lodge, No. 694, of W. Bro. Walter David Hughes. He was the I.P.M. of the Lodge and a very pleasant man who did not find the Ritual easy but he persevered, being well respected by all members of the Lodge. He was Advanced into the Lodge on 7th February, 2011 and was Installed as Worshipful Master in 2018, being in the Chair for the Centenary Celebrations of the Lodge. W. Bro. Hughes passed away peacefully on 22nd Janury, 2021, aged 72 years, his family were at his side.
He is remembered as a keen supporter of all social events and supported fund raising openly. He will be missed by all

  13. Malcolm Lloyd

It is with very much regret that I report the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of W. Bro. Larry Harding, Oakley Mark and RAM Lodge, on Friday 15th January, 2021. What a man he was, Larry was a member of many Masonic Orders and has been very active in most, if not all. He always encouraged and guided those who were new in any Order by explaining why or for what reason we did certain things, He was always so helpful, he had the habit if putting his arm around someone who might be struggling slightly to encourage them.
Larry was a gentleman in the true sense of the word, he certainly lived respected and he will be sadly missed

  14. George J Deacon

    John Brackley.
Sadly R.W. Bro John Brackley passed away on Saturday 2nd of January after a long illness. R.W. Bro John was Grand Secretary at Mark Masons Hall for a number of years and was Promoted to Grand Senior Warden following his retirement as Grand Secretary, he was also a Member of the Grand Masters Royal Ark Council. R.W. Bro Nigel Buckingham Past PGM and John became great friends and had a good working relationship, Nigel had a great understanding of the problems the Grand Secretary had to contend with during his tenure . This Province has much to thank R.W, Bro John for his help and advice over many years.
Our thoughts and Prayers go out to Mary (his wife)and the Family at this very sad time. He was a good friend to this Province and will be sadly missed.

  15. George J Deacon

Brian Clifford Wareham. Brian Wareham was highly regarded in this Province by all who knew him. Brian was Provincial Grand Master of Sussex in the Mark Degree , District Grand Master in the Royal & Select Masters of Sussex , Provincial Grand Master in the Royal Order of Scotland in Southern Counties and held high Office in all the Progressive Orders .
He was a brilliant ritualist a great Mentor and a sad loss to all who knew Brian . Our thoughts and prayers are with Tina and the Family at this very sad moment in time. Rest in Peace Brian.

  16. George J Deacon

Brian Dolling. I met W.Bro Brian Dolling when he was part of the Active Team in the Mark and Brian was a very quiet man but a man who gave loyal service to his Lodges and was a great asset to Gosport Mark & Ram and to this Province and will be remembered with much fondness. Brian lived respected and died regretted.

  17. Malcolm Lloyd

It is with great sadness that I have to record the death of Rt. W. Bro. Brian Clifford Wareham, after losing his battle with cancer. He was Past Prov. Grand Master of the Mark Province of Sussex. He held many senior offices in different Orders throughout Masonry and was very well respected. He was the P.G.M. of Royal Order of Scotland, Southern Counties. From 2000 to 200 Brian was the District Grand Prefect of Southern Counties in A.M.D. Brian also held the Office of District Grand Master of Sussex in the Royal and Select Masters. He was very much involved in the setting up of the Order of Scarlet Cord in it’s present form. As one can see he was a very busy, dedicated mason, his passing is regretted .
Some of us knew Brian well as a Founder of Harewood Forest Council in Royal and Select Masters, where he passed on his vast knowledge to the members. He was an excellent ritualist.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mrs. Tina Wareham, and family, who have had to suffer the loss of a son/brother and husband/father over the last few months

  18. Brian Durrant

Dear brethren. It is with great sadness that I have to report the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of W.Bro Brian Dolling. Brian sadly passed away on 27th December 2020 whilst out walking at 9.40am.

Brain was Worshipful Master of Gosport Lodge of Mark Masters No305 and Commander of Gosport Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners No305. Brian resigned sadly from both Mark and RAM due to ill health, but really was a dedicated worker in both Mark and RAM and will be sadly missed.by us all.

Derek Michael Hall (Ex of Shalden Mark 988)

For the first 16 years of my Masonic existence, Derek Hall was omnipresent, he was one of the first people I met in Masonry, even from the moment I was brought into light, then when I joined the Mark and when I joined The Royal Ark Mariners, Derek was in attendance. And then suddenly he wasn’t there anymore. Yet in those first 15 years of my Masonic existence, he taught me so much and I’m grateful to him.
For an Englishman, I was surprised to hear that he had been initiated into the craft in Ireland. Indeed, many of us will remember him taking part in a demonstration of an Irish Lodge Opening Ceremony at a meeting when my lodge had no ritual waiting to be done. I remember thinking; it was surprisingly different from what we experienced.
Derek was a soldier, a military policeman and for a while, it seems he was stationed in Northern Ireland. Military service was his other great passion; he liked to regale us with stories of his time in the army, which he could always recall in great, great detail.
Additionally to Craft Masonry, Derek was involved in very many orders, these are the ones that I knew about: The Royal Arch, The Mark, The Royal Ark Mariners, The Knights Templar and Rose Croix. There were probably more, but I am not aware of them. He was Advanced into Shalden Mark 988 in November 1986 and became Worshipful Master in 1992 and achieved senior Provincial rank. He was passionately fond of the Mark, but I believe his favourite order however was the Knights Templar. Even after Derek resigned from many of his Lodges in 2012, he maintained his links with the William Stuart Preceptory 76A where he was made an honorary member just a few months ago.
From time to time over the past few years I would bump into Derek in Alton town centre, and I noticed his increasingly heavy reliance upon his walking sticks, but was shocked to learn that when he passed to the Grand Lodge Above this week, he was nearly 94 years old. He will never be forgotten.

It is with sadness that I record the passing of W. Bro. Roger Legg, PGStwd, to the Grand lodge above, yesterday. He was a member of New Forest Mark Lodge, N0. 611 and Eling Manor Lodge. It has been said of him that he made a significant contribution to all Lodges that he belonged to, always willing to help out. His wife, Jenny has said, “He was a good man and loved his masonry. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her and her family. Roger lived respected and died regretted. Rest in Peace my Worthy Brother.
