The Provincial Grand Master, R.W.Bro. George J. Deacon, accompanied by the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, V.W.Bro. W. Peter Lewis, and Officers of Provincial Grand Mark Lodge visited Brocas Hyrst Lodge of Mark Master Masons No 1733 on Thursday 14 November at the Brockenhurst Masonic Hall. Prior to the business of the Lodge a eulogy was given by W. Bro. Ron Mabey, PPrGInspWks, for Bro. Jim Cobb, one of the Founders of the Lodge. This was a heartfelt memorial to a well loved mason who will be very sadly missed.
The Provincial Grand Master presented a Grand Lodge Certificate to Bro. James William Bailey. There then followed an excellent Ceremony of Advancement by the Worshipful Master, W.Bro. David Slattery, PPGSD, and Brethren of the Lodge, for Bro. James Alex Jury. The Signs were presented by W.Bro. Kevin Talbot, PM, and the Working Tools by W.Bro. Mark Green, ProvGSO.
The Lodge was celebrating its 25th anniversary this evening and following the Ceremony, the Provincial Grand Master reflected on past and current members of the Lodge, and its history. He remembered the late Bro. Jim Cobb who was a marvellous, larger than life character. The Provincial Grand Master had very fond memories of the early years of the Lodge. He also remembered W.Bro. Peter House who was the father of W.Bro. Steve House, PPrGJO, both Founders of the Lodge. At this point the Provincial Grand Master asked for W.Bro. Steve House, PPrGJO, to be brought to him. He said W.Bro. Steve was highly regarded amongst the Brethren and in recognition of this and his hard work with Bro. Jim Cobb, and the Lodge, he gave him a field promotion to PPrGSW. This was met with great acclaim by all the Brethren.
The Provincial Grand Master then presented a 25th Jubilee Anniversary Certificate to the Worshipful Master, W.Bro. David Slattery, PPrGSD, on behalf of the Lodge, which was first read by W.Bro. Simon Lancaster, PGStdB, ProvDepGSec. There followed a short history of the Lodge read by W.Bro. Mark Green, ProvGSO, and Director of Ceremonies of the Lodge, who afterwards was presented with his Mark Benevolent Fund Vice-Patron Collarette and Certificate by the Provincial Grand Master.
At the Festive Board the Provincial Grand Master was presented with a cheque from the Lodge to go to the Mark Benevolent Fund and Hampshire and Isle of Wight 2026 Festival. The Provincial Grand Master said it was a delight being here on this special occasion. He was able to re-live memories of the Founders; a number who are still here today. It was another excellent turnout by the Provincial team numbering well over 30 Provincial Officers.
