The Provincial Grand Master, R.W.Bro. George J. Deacon, RAMGR, accompanied by the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, V.W.Bro. W. Peter Lewis, RAMGR and Officers of Provincial Lodge visited Phoenix Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners No. 2 at the Phoenix Lodge Rooms in Old Portsmouth on Monday 4 November 2019. After entering the Lodge room the Provincial Grand Master requested W.Bro. Alan Sutherland to be brought to him so that he could notionally present his ProvRAMGR collarette to him. He received it two years ago but W.Bro. Alan was unable to be present at the Provincial Meeting. The Provincial Grand Master welcomed W.Bro. Alan to this meeting and added that this Provincial rank was for all the hard work he had done for the Lodge.
There then followed at excellent Ceremony of Elevation carried out by the Worshipful Commander W.Bro. Jonathan Stainton-Ellis. The candidate, Bro. Andrew Rhys Morris was welcomed into the Lodge, and the Order, by the Provincial Grand Master. He also congratulated the Worshipful Commander on a lovely ceremony. W.Bro. David Stockdale, RAMGR, then gave a short talk on the Royal Ark Mariner Degree, and this Lodge in particular.
The Provincial Grand Master requested the Provincial Director of Ceremonies, W.Bro. Adrian Cleightonhills, ProvRAMGR, to read the 50 Year Jubilee Celebration Warrant. Following the reading the Provincial Grand Master presented the Warrant to the Worshipful Commander saying that he was sure the Brethren will have no problems in keeping up the high standards shown by the Lodge. Before the Provincial Grand Master retired from the Lodge he thanked the Provincial Grand Organist W.Bro. Trevor Gulliver, ProvRAMGR, for providing the music for the evening. He also suggested that the Lodge had a lot of history with some famous and interesting individuals being past members. He had already suggested to the Installed Mark Masters Lodge to consider preparing a presentation on famous Hampshire and Isle of Wight Masons and suggested this Lodge either provided information to them, or prepared their own talk.
At the Festive Board there was a very generous donation by the Lodge to the Provincial Grand Master for The Mark Benevolent Fund. The Provincial Grand Master thanked the Brethren and commented that it had been a fantastic evening and wished the Lodge success for the future. It was another great turnout by the Provincial team.
