It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing to the Grand Lodge above on Sunday 17th March (St Patrick’s Day) of WBro Charles Bailey PGJD, RAMGR who was the Provincial Grand Charity Steward for the Mark Province of Hampshire and IOW prior to W Bro Nigel Wilkinson.

Charles joined Masonry via Malines Lodge No 8740 in Middlesex in September 1978 but moved to Hampshire for business reasons some two years later where he joined Cherry Tree Lodge No 8749 at Bordon (1980), Bishops Waltham Lodge No 8190 (1985) and then became a founder of Pegasus Forces Lodge No 9393 (1990).  He was also a founder of Household Division Lodge No 9545 (1994) in Buckinghamshire and a Joining member of Aldershot Army & Navy Lodge No 1971 (2009).

His greatest love however, like many of us, was the Mark Degree and Charles became a member of Loveland Mark No 674 and Mark of Education Royal Ark Mariner No 1491 as well as the Stewards lodges in this Province.  He and his wife Josie moved back to their roots in Cheshire some seven years ago where he also became heavily involved in Mark Masonry in that Province.  Our loss was their gain.

He may well be best remembered by many not only as the “Airborne Grenadier” but also as the organiser of the Mark Weekend trips following the retirement of John Judd.  Charles, ably supported by his wife Josie arranged trips to many places including Canterbury, Rheims, Chester, Paris, Falmouth, Norwich, and Coventry all of which were thoroughly enjoyable and memorable events.  Charles will be remembered as a larger than life character who epitomised the Mark Degree’s mantle of being happy and radiating happiness.

R.I.P Mucker!
